Benito Lowe and Rick Tindall both netted hat-tricks as The Millers ran riot at The Venue, netting eleven times against a St Martins side who, in spite of being out-gunned, battled until the very end on a very wet afternoon in Oswestry.
It was to be quite the change of fortunes for Lowe, initially selected on the substitutes bench following his return from suspension, but with Chris Rogers pulling up injured in the warm up Lowe was added to the midfield with Elliot Cooke dropping into right back. Darren McKnight made his return to the side too, having missed the midweek win over Rocester through illness.
Considering the goal fest that was to follow The Millers started slowly as they adapted to the artificial surface, but it did not take long for them to hit their stride. On 22 minutes Adam Stuart sent Lowe scampering clear and he made no mistake in firing past Lewis Jenkinson to give his side the lead. Three minutes later the lead was doubled, McKnight picking up the first of his five assists in sending Joe Bevan through and there was only one outcome, Bevan picking his spot and slotting home. It was three just moments later, McKnight floating in a right wing corner and Manu Omorogbe rose above Jenkinson to head home his fist goal for the club from close range.
On the half hour mark Tindall should have netted his first of the game, Mason Fallon raced up the left and, in a carbon copy of Tindall's goal at Rocester in midweek, sent in an inch perfect cross, picking out the striker unmarked just six yards from goal. Unfortunately on this occasion Tindall was to head against the cross bar and had to wait for his first of the afternoon. It was not long before a fourth goal came, Tindall hit an ambitious long range half volley which Jenkinson parried straight into the path of Lowe and he fired in his second of the game. It was a hat-trick for Benito just six minutes later, once again he was sent clear on goal and he smashed in off the far post. He could have added to his tally before half-time from a very similar position, however on this occasion he sent his shot against the cross bar.
Five ahead at the interval The Millers joint-bosses Mike Norton and Dave Birch introduced Jake Pollard for Jack Wray and the attacker was to feature heavily for the remainder of the contest. Just seconds into the second period and Pollard fed Bevan who slipped in Cooke who smashed in his third goal of the season. It was seven on 52 minutes, Tindall blasting in from close range following a free-kick and he added his second two minutes later as Pollard picked him out unmarked six yards out.
On 55 minutes Kyle Oakes was introduced from the bench in place of Stuart, making his return from injury and it was to be an eventful afternoon for the midfielder in his first game since September. St Martins capitalised on a defensive mix up on 66 minutes and pulled one back before Oakes first contribution to the game was to collect a yellow card moments later. He followed the booking by netting twice in a minute, the first a clever left footed curling effort, the second an emphatic right footed volley from twelve yards out. With 11 minutes to go Pollard sent Lowe free on the right hand side and he crossed low for Tindall who controlled cleverly and slipped in to complete his hat-trick. St Martins were to have the final say, Joseph Hingira heading home unmarked from a corner with three minutes to go.
The Millers move on to face Abbey Hey next, looking to avenge their defeat at The Abbey Stadium back in October, with their squad looking considerably stronger than at that point as players return from injury and suspension.
