The Millers slipped to defeat at Cammell Laird after producing a performance that joint-Manager Dave Birch later described as '...as bad as we've been since we took over', the home side fully deserving their victory having shown more desire to win the game.
With only Kyle Oakes absent from the squad through injury and Adam Stuart suspended Birch and Mike Norton had a selection dilemma with virtually a full strength squad to choose from, skipper Mason Fallon making a return to the squad following injury and taking a place on the substitutes bench.
The Millers did not start the game well and laboured through the first half, the home side sensing that the visitors were off form and realising that an upset was on the cards. The first half ended goalless but it came as no surprise early in the second when Jake Doran gave Lairds the lead. Darren McKnight equalised from the penalty spot on 78 minutes but a defensive error allowed Kieran Hamm to put Lairds back in front immediately. As The Millers chased the game late on the home side killed off their chances, Cameron McGregor netting their third with nine minutes to go.
