The Millers could hardly have wished for a better start to the 2026/27 campaign as they swept aside Telford Town with an emphatic 6-0 victory at Church Lane.

With a new season bringing renewed optimism around the club, The Millers were on the front foot from the opening whistle and needed just two minutes to break the deadlock. A bright start was rewarded when Solomon Richards gave the hosts an early advantage.

Richards continued to be a constant threat and doubled both his tally and New Mills' lead midway through the first half. After a foul inside the area, the forward stepped up confidently and dispatched the resulting penalty on 23 minutes to make it 2-0.

The Millers controlled proceedings throughout the opening period and went into the break with a two-goal cushion.

Any hopes of a Telford Town comeback were extinguished nine minutes after the restart. Gilbert Ocran added New Mills' third of the afternoon on 54 minutes, to put the result beyond doubt.

The introduction of substitutes only added to the hosts' momentum. Luke Evans made an impact from the bench, scoring on 80 minutes before adding his second and New Mills' fifth just five minutes later to cap an impressive cameo appearance.

There was still time for another substitute to get on the scoresheet as Harley Hughes rounded off the scoring deep into injury time, applying the finishing touch to complete a comprehensive 6-0 victory.

The final whistle was greeted with applause all around Church Lane as The Millers opened their league campaign in style. With six goals, a clean sheet and contributions from throughout the squad, it was a performance that will give plenty of encouragement ahead of the challenges to come.
