Millers pegged back by late equaliser

An injury time equaliser prevented The Millers from extending their winning run to four games as Dave Birch and Mike Norton's side were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal once again. A bright start to the game saw Benito Lowe hit the crossbar from a Darren McKnight corner and then Akim Samms header was cleared off the line just minutes later as The Millers dominated the opening half hour.

The visitors recorded their first attempt just after the half hour mark, Reece Lyndon's 20 yard effort was tipped over the bar by Dylan Forth, and from the resulting corner the same player was to give his side the lead. The Millers failed to clear the initial delivery and from the second ball Lyndon was left unmarked six yards out, and he made no mistake heading home from close range.

As half-time approached Harry Norris saw a header well saved by Peter Monteith in the Maine Road goal, before The Millers levelled moments before the interval. McKnight's corner headed glanced home by Lowe at the near post for the midfielders 20th goal of the campaign. The referee brought the half to a close almost immediately and the sides went in to the break on level terms.

Two minutes into the second half and the impressive Akim Samms put the visitors ahead, receiving the ball in a tight area he turned cleverly and slotted past Monteith to add his name to the scoresheet for the second successive game. The lead lasted less than a minute, a long ball from the back saw Lyndon race clear on goal as The Millers appealed for offside, and he smashed a fabulous left footed effort past Forth from a tight angle.

The Millers were ahead again within ten minutes, Mason Fallon fouled by Monteith in the area and McKnight made no mistake from the resulting penalty, smashing home from 12 yards out. Adam Muir and Teddy Osipitan were introduced for Elliot Cooke and Samms as The Millers looked to defend their lead, but in injury time a looping ball into the area found its way to Yousif Yousif who volleyed past Forth from ten yards out to level the scores.
