The Millers made it three wins in a row for the first time since September as Dave Birch and Mike Norton's side look to hit top form as they approach the business end of the season, but they were made to work hard for it by a stubborn Cammell Laird side.
The Millers were hit with a blow prior to kick off with leading scorer Joe Bevan ruled out with a hip abductor strain, and with Rick Tindall also unavailable Akim Samms and Jake Pollard lined up with Michael Fish in attack. After missing the midweek win over Ellesmere Rangers Benito Lowe was restored to the starting line up in midfield alongside Darren McKnight and Jack Wray. Elliot Cooke picked up an injury in midweek and he was replaced in the starting line up by Finlay Phillips, making his first start at Church Lane for the club. Cooke, who has been in fine form lately, is awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of his hip injury.
After scoring the quickest recorded goal in the clubs history the previous weekend, The Millers fell behind to one of the quickest they have ever conceded. With less than a minute on the clock a long ball into the area caused more trouble than necessary and Harry Norris's clearance rebounded from Pablo Martinez Palacios and past Dylan Forth.
The Millers were level within six minutes, Jake Pollard winning a header in midfield that allowed Lowe to race into the Cammell Laird area and his cross was volleyed in by Akim Samms. There were no further goals in the first half, although The Millers had gained the ascendency in spite of being hit with another injury blow as Fish was forced off on the half hour, replaced by Adam Muir, with Lowe moving into attack.
The Millers started the second half in fine style and were ahead within a minute of the restart, McKnight found Samms on the edge of the area, and he in turn slipped in Lowe who smashed home his 19th goal of the season from twelve yards out. It was 3-1 on the hour as Pollard's cross was handled in the area and McKnight made no mistake from the spot. Six minutes after coming on as substitute Teddy Osipitan made it 4-1, converting another Samms cross from close range. The visitors pulled a goal back in injury time, Ryan Smith heading home following a corner, but The Millers recorded a comprehensive third win in succession, and now move on to face in form Maine Road on Monday evening.
