The Millers signed off the league season in superb style with a convincing 5–1 victory over Telford Town at Church Lane, a performance that underlined their play‑off credentials and set up a mouth‑watering home semi‑final.
The home side wasted no time in stamping their authority on the contest. Just six minutes were on the clock when Saul Henderson slipped a perfectly weighted pass through to Will Shawcross, who showed great composure to finish clinically and give the his side an early lead.
The pair combined again on 15 minutes, this time with roles reversed. Shawcross delivered a pinpoint corner and Henderson attacked it brilliantly, glancing a confident header in at the near post to double the advantage.
There was a brief setback on 22 minutes when Darius Photiou was forced off through injury, Declan Nolan entering the fray, but it did little to disrupt The Millers rhythm. Eight minutes later, the Millers effectively put the game beyond doubt. Shawcross broke clear on goal and, demonstrating great awareness and unselfishness, squared for Henderson to apply the simplest of finishes and make it 3–0.
Chris Baguley's side weren’t finished before the break. Henderson was replaced by Jelani Blake, and the winger immediately made his presence felt. His dangerous cross found Luc Ferry in space, and Ferry made no mistake, firing home to send the Millers into half-time with a commanding four-goal cushion.
The second half continued in the same dominant vein. James Perry marked another step in his return from a knee injury when he replaced Josh Lowe on 54 minutes, and the Millers continued to control proceedings. The highlight of the half arrived on 65 minutes in spectacular fashion. Blake picked out Alfie Belcher, who produced a moment of real quality to lob the visiting goalkeeper from fully 30 yards out, a finish worthy of the occasion.
With the game safely won, The Millers understandably eased off in the closing stages and Telford Town pulled one back late on, but it did little to dampen the mood around Church Lane. The atmosphere was already excellent and lifted further as news filtered through that Stockport Georgians had drawn at Barnton.
That result confirmed a third‑place finish for The Millers and a home semi‑final in the play‑offs, fittingly against Stockport Georgians, capping a hugely positive league campaign and giving everyone connected with the club plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead.
