The Millers maintained their play off push as they comfortably beat Barnton 4-2 in a lively encounter at the Church Lane.
After a slow start by both sides The Millers took the lead on 24 minutes when Will Shawcross opened the scoring. The home side were in no mood to sit on their lead and doubled their advantage just eight minutes later. Saul Henderson was on hand to convert on 32 minutes, making it 2-0. Henderson was in inspired form and grabbed his second of the afternoon (and the Millers’ third) on 39 minutes, showing great composure to finish smartly and put New Mills firmly in the driving seat at 3-0. Barnton refused to roll over and pulled a goal back deep in first-half added time, reducing the deficit to 3-1 at the break and giving themselves a lifeline going into the second period.

The second half began with New Mills still in command. Maysan Bernarbia extended the lead to 4-1 with a well-taken goal that effectively killed off any realistic hopes of a Barnton comeback. However, the visitors showed plenty of spirit and continued to press. Their persistence was rewarded on 74 minutes when they pulled another goal back, setting up a nervy final 15 minutes for the Millers at 4-2.

The Millers managed the closing stages well in spite of Kieran Nolan’s late sin bin giving Barnton a numerical advantage, defended resolutely and saw out the victory without further alarm.
