The Millers were made to work for a point after a dramatic finale at Church Lane, as a last‑gasp free‑kick from Will Shawcross ensured they claimed a share of the spoils against visitors Ashville.
The Millers started brightly and were rewarded after 14 minutes. A superb long pass from Darius Photiou split the defence and released Saul Henderson, who rounded the advancing keeper and, from a tight angle, guided the ball home to make it 1–0.
Ashville grew into the contest as the half progressed and began to pose real problems going forward. Their pressure eventually told on 41 minutes when a free‑kick delivered from the left was met firmly by Ben Greenop, whose header levelled the scores.
After the break, New Mills appeared to tire following their recent demanding schedule, and Ashville took control of long spells. The visitors’ increased tempo and physicality had the Millers on the back foot, and it was no surprise when Ashville finally struck what looked like a late winner in added time. Greenop turned provider this time, driving a low cross into the six‑yard area for Joel Kelly to tap in from close range.
But the Millers showed outstanding character. With virtually the final attack of the game, Danny Warburton was bundled over 20 yards from goal. Up stepped Will Shawcross, who curled a low, precise free‑kick around the wall and into the corner to salvage a dramatic point for his side.
A hard‑fought encounter, and one in which The Millers’ resilience shone through right to the very end.
