Cheadle Heath Nomads 6-1 The Millers

An inexperienced Millers side, featuring five members of the New Mills Juniors Under 18 squad, with nine players aged 17 or under were knocked out of the Division One Cup at Cheadle Heath Nomads as former Miller Danny McLaughlin netted for times for Nomads who proved just too strong.

Nevertheless it was a fine experience for The Millers youngsters, Harry Wyatt, Nathan Lees and Harvey Smith making their first appearances for the club, while Jake Brooks had played and scored in the abandoned tie a week ago. Goalkeeper Jordan Latham, Jack Wray and Finley Phillips are expected to be in The Millers squad travelling to Isle of Man at weekend and the game offered them the opportunity to gain some valuable minutes as they look for full fitness. Albern Kilgour, James Heatley and Faris Khan have been involved with the first team squad on several occasions recently and were given another opportunity to impress.

After falling behind early The Millers settled into the game and created several opportunities, Brooks long throws in particular causing problems for the home defence, but Nomads proved clinical, especially when attacking the channels and they added two more before the interval.

With twenty minutes to go The Millers received a lifeline, Brooks cross from the left finished brilliantly by joint-Manager Mike Norton, his delicious chip over Rigby proving to be the goal of the game. The young Millers tired in the closing stages and Nomads notched three more goals to progress to the next round.
