The Millers Media Team review ‘The Season that Never Was‘

The 2019/20 season was one of ups and down for The Millers before eventually being brought to a premature end by the Covid-19 situation around the world. Here the Millers Media Team take a look back at the season just gone, in alphabetical order. Here we look at the I’s;

IDUGBOR (Stefano) - One of the several players to make a solitary appearance for the club in the 2019/20 season, Idugbor was brought on as a first half substitute in the home game against Eccleshall in August, replacing Daniel Tweedie at right back. Idugbor was not selected by then Boss Paul Riley for the next fixture and the appointment of Mike Norton & Dave Birch as joint Managers signalled the end of his Church Lane career

ILKESTON TOWN - The Millers defeated the Bet Victor side away from home in the Derbyshire Senior Cup in what was widely regarded as one of the finest performances produced by a New Mills side in many years. Goals by Darren McKnight and Nathan Webb secured the win, although a late consolation by the home side meant a nervy end to the night

INJURIES - The Millers had more than their fair share of injuries in the 2019/20 season, losing a number of key players as they were finding form. Not just knocks, but injuries leading to players missing a significant number of games. Nat Kerr was forced off against Eccleshall in the Player.com Cup with his side leading comfortably 3-1, a game they went on to lose on penalties, Mason Fallon missed several games throughout October, Nathan Webb limped away from the Ilkeston game on Bonfire Night after an illuminating individual performance and was unable to regain fitness in the 2019/20 season, Dylan Forth was injured in training just before Christmas and was missing until late February. Benito Lowe suffered an injury before playing a game in 2019/20 and was absent until Mid-September, while Jake Pollard saw his season brought to a premature end when he was helped off at Cheadle Town with a hamstring injury.

INTERNATIONALS - New Mills AFC were delighted to learn that two of their players were called up by England in the 2019/20 campaign, Will Ozono called into the England Universities side, while Cavell Donaldson was named in the England Deaf squad

INJUSTICE - Teams mainly get what they deserve in the game of football and there can usually be no complaints about the result, but if a result was unjust it was The Millers 3-2 home defeat to Oswestry Town in early September, when they produced a sizzling performance to dominate the game after being two goals down inside the opening seven minutes. As they pushed for the win they were hit with a sucker punch as a breakaway in injury time saw a penalty awarded, which was converted to give the visitors the win
