Vote for the wingers in the Ultimate Millers Team

We are back on the trail of finding the best New Mills X1 of all time as voted by you the supporters. Obviously, one can only judge sometimes the players you have seen play for the club and many of the older names which are mentioned may be difficult to assess. However, we do aim to try to cover all areas in our history.

Here is the shortlist of candidates for the wide positions, compiled by club Historian Allan Jones, vote for your favourites to decide who will join Liam Higginbotham, Mike Barton, Peter Band, Mike Ryan and Adam Mather in the Greatest Ever Millers Team.

ERNIE HULSTONE
Ernie was a member of the treble winning side of 1939/40 and continued his career after the war. A fast player who scored bags of goals including a number of hat tricks.

RALPH SIMMS
Ralph usually played as a wide man but could also move inside or indeed as a centre forward. Won league winners medal with the club in 1956 and like Ernie scored a great number of goals.

HARRY SHIPMAN
Harry Shipman was a real flyer and also had an eye for goal. An orthodox wide player was very popular with the fans.

TERRY WRIGHT
Terry the Glossop hairdresser was a vital part of Joe Martins successful team throughout the mid 1960's. Still remembered today by the older fans who will tell you how good he was.

RAY HATTON
Father of Ricky, Ray captained the side for a few seasons during the early 1970's. Ray perhaps did not contribute the same goals as some of the others named above but he provided plenty of crosses for others to do so.

DENNIS BROWN
Former professional with Stockport County, Dennis was believed to be on the verge of breaking into their first team squad before a bad leg break ended his professional career. A wide player with a real eye for goal, Dennis was deceptively quick and was a tremendous crosser of the ball. Possessed incredible balance and strength, Dennis was renowned for his kit being as clean at the end of the game as at the start due to his ability to hold off challenges and 'float' even on the muddiest of pitches.

STEVE WORRALL
Flamboyant winger 'Wogga' was a wide man from the traditional mould. Spent many seasons playing in the semi-professional game before joining the Millers in their Manchester League days. Possessed great skill and loved to run at defenders, making him hugely popular with the Church Lane faithful.

STACEY WILD
Stacey did score a great number of goals with his mazy runs. Fondly remembered for bringing Derbyshire Cup success to the club in successive seasons in the early part of this century.

LUKE HORROCKS
Luke played well over a hundred games for the club during our successful period a few years ago. Was a pivotal figure in the North West Counties Premier Division Championship win and carried his form through several seasons in the Ev-Stik League. Still playing at that level, Luke was hugely popular with fans at Church Lane.
