Carlos Meakin has overwhelmingly been voted into one of the central midfield positions in the Greatest Ever Millers team, receiving a huge percentage of the votes.
'The King' was brought to the club by Tony Hancock after a lengthy pursuit of his signature, and what a signing he turned out to be! Meakin was well known to Hancock having worked together previously at Woodley Sports, and he also represented Cheadle Town and Hyde United. An impressive performer several divisions higher than the Millers were at that stage, Carlos represented a major coup for the club at the time and he became the catalyst for the success that followed.
The driving force behind some of the greatest Millers teams, Meakin was to become only the fourth player to net 200 goals for the club, boasting an astonishing goal scoring record from midfield. His final Church Lane career stats were 295 appearances and 201 goals. He scored the winning penalty in the NWCFL Division One Trophy final against Oldham Town and he was to go on to lift the Division One trophy, NWCFL League Cup and the NWCFL Premier Division trophy during his time at Church Lane. Carlos was also an important member of the side that reached the Evo-Stik Division One North play-offs in 2012/13, and was voted into the Evo-Stik team of the year that season.
Carlos joins former team mates Mickey Ryan, Adam Mather, Liam Higginbotham and Luke Horrocks in the Ultimate Millers team.
The second central midfield place will be confirmed as soon as possible.
