The Millers 3-3 Cammell Laird

A late strike by Luke Merrill saw The Millers earn their first league point since August, from an exciting contest at Church Lane that also signalled the start of new Manager Chris Baguley’s reign. Baguley was appointed as Manager on Thursday, following the departure of Reece Brown and Melford Knight, and he wasted no time in adding to the squad, with no fewer than five players making their debut against the Wirral based side who always represent tough opposition when they visit Church Lane.

While The Millers started the brighter it was the visitors who went ahead on the half hour, the ball pulled back from the right hand side and slotted past Billy O’Carroll by Zak Catesby. The Millers, without a league win in 2023/24, showed great character to bounce back and were ahead at the interval. First Rob Payne glanced home a corner from six yards out to equalise, before Ollie Havens fired in his fifth goal in seven games right on half-time to put his side ahead.

The visitors seized control of the game after the interval and with twenty minutes to go they were ahead, Matthew Beaman (54 minutes) and Jay Harvey (70 minutes) the scorers. With time running out and The Millers throwing everything into attack the ball found its way to Luke Merrill 18 yards out and he fired low and hard across Ebbrell and into the far corner of the net to earn a point.
