The Millers led twice but were unable to take three points back to Church Lane as defensive errors prevented them recording their first victory of the 2023/24 season. With Joe Lawton ruled out for several weeks with a hand injury, Dylan Forth returned in goal to make his first appearance of the campaign, while Jake Wright came in for the unavailable MacKena Bradshaw to register his first start of the season. Wright showed no signs of rust having been an unused substitute prior to the game and along with Olly Parker were arguably the star players on the day.
New signings Craig McCall and Jack Dyche went straight into the team, and after a drab first half the game sparked into life on 53 minutes when Dyche clipped in to Joel Ankers who volleyed The Millers ahead. Nomads were level within seven minutes, The Millers caught out in the inside left channel and after two attempts were blocked Loui Williams stroked home from 12 yards out.
Both sides had half chances, but The Millers seized control again with ten minutes to go, Chris Rogers 25 yard free-kick deflecting in off the defensive wall and deceiving Forde in the Nomads goal. Once again thought the visitors failed to hold onto the lead and just two minutes later Max Pouncey grabbed an equaliser.
